What is Topology?

Course Description

Topology is like geometry, just more bendy. While geometers study properties of shapes, such as lengths and angles, topologists are more interested in properties of shapes that are preserved by stretching and bending, such as knottiness. It's often said that a topologist is a mathematician who can't tell a donut from a coffee cup! In this lecture you'll get an introduction to what math looks like through the eyes of a topologist and learn how mathematicians get started thinking about those bendy shapes. No mathematical background necessary.
