How Ancient DNA and Modern Dating Techniques Illuminate the Genealogy of Humanity

Course Description

Over time, archeologists have traced human history with artifacts left behind by past societies. Since the 1960s, new scientific tools, such as radiocarbon dating, have transformed the discipline of archeology. In just the last two decades, mapping the human genome combined with ability to reconstruct ancient DNA has revolutionized our knowledge of human history. In this class, we will review new science and how it is informing us about our past. The course is designed for a lay audience with general knowledge of DNA and history of human migration out of Africa into Eurasia and the Americas.
