Deciphering Art Genres

Course Description

As a museum docent, the single most frequent comment hear is “I don’t understand much about art, but I like looking at it and hearing the stories.” In four sessions, we'll discuss the historical and social context of mythological and religious art, portraits, character studies, landscapes and still life's so that you can draw more meaning from art that is both familiar and new to you. Using pieces in local collections, famous paintings and less well-known works, we'll talk about what the artists were trying to convey and why.
