My First Fun Program!: Grades 1 - 2

Course Description

Have fun making your first computer program! Create your own interactive stories, games, and animations and share them with others. You're never too young to start to learn the basics especially when it's so easy.

Objectives
Students learn the basics of programming logic by creating self-developed stories, animations and games using the simple drag and drop blocks of the MIT-developed Scratch environment. Once these concepts of programming are mastered we apply them to JavaScript. This workshop is a great introduction for early learners to try programming. Even if your child does not choose a career in technology the concepts taught here are applicable to critical thinking and problem solving in every field. This workshop may be taken several times. Topics include programming logic, sprites, coordinates, problem solving, storytelling, animation, game design and critical thinking.
