Film Production 101: Grades 6 -12

Course Description

Camera! Lights! Action! Crash course learning on how a movie is produced and created. Students will be guided through a pre-designed visual story where they will write out a shot list, draw the storyboards, shoot the shots for the movie and then see how its edited together in post-production. Students will learn how to operate a camera and compose different angle shots and work together as a crew to complete a project. Location scouting, acting skills and camera techniques will also be covered. Once the video project is shot the students will edit (cut and trim down) the video and add special effects, music and credits to the finalized video product...Roll Camera! Action!

Students will demonstrate camera usage skills and techniques, organize and create linear storyboards and videos containing text, graphics and music. In addition students will gain acting skills as they act out the storyboard scenario. They will collaborate to solve problems, analyze their collaboration and develop solutions using technology.

Film Production 101 will be taught by Geoffrey Smith, a professional camera man and producer with over 20 years of experience in the industry with major networks. Note: a flash drive may be required to take projects and movies home.

Extended Day Coverage (Mornings & Afternoons)
Families needing to drop off kids early or pick them up late may take advantage of TCU's Extended Coverage options. These optional coverages may be added during workshop registration and checkout. Fees are based on a weekly basis (see fees below); extended coverage for individaul days are not available for purchase.

  • Morning Extended Day Coverage (7:30am - 9:00am): +$35/week
  • Afternoon Extended Day Coverage (4:00pm - 5:30pm): +$35/week

    Lunch Policy & Coverage
    Campers registered for both a morning and an afternoon workshop during the same week, or an all day workshop will be monitored for lunch at no additional cost. Students staying all day must provide their own, non-perishable lunch and beverage (refrigeration not available). Please note that no lunches will be provided by TCU or staff.

    Ya'll Come Back! Rebate Program
    Simply register your child in more than one eligible camp workshop this summer and receive a rebate after the camp season ends. $10 rebates apply to each additional camp for each child; so, register your child for three eligible camps and receive $20 back! It's our way of saying thanks! Rebates will be processed in Fall 2018.
