Balloons & Flight: Grades 1 - 2

Course Description

Have you ever wanted to see how high can you go? Launch hot air and helium balloons and find out! Construct and kites and planes and perform flight tests. Learn the basics about flight, propellers, meteorology and more. At the end of the workshop you’ll take home a flying device of your own.

Objectives
Students will explore basic concepts of flight, aeronautics, propulsion, newton’s laws, simple fixed-wing plane construction, ballooning, gas laws and meteorology.

Take-home includes a hot air balloon or fixed-wing plane (subject to post-flight recoverability).

Extended Day Coverage (Mornings & Afternoons)
Families needing to drop off kids early or pick them up late may take advantage of TCU's Extended Coverage options. These optional coverages may be added during workshop registration and checkout. Fees are based on a weekly basis (see fees below); extended coverage for individaul days are not available for purchase.

  • Morning Extended Day Coverage (7:30am - 9:00am): +$35/week
  • Afternoon Extended Day Coverage (4:00pm - 5:30pm): +$35/week

    Lunch Policy & Coverage
    Campers registered for both a morning and an afternoon workshop during the same week, or an all day workshop will be monitored for lunch at no additional cost. Students staying all day must provide their own, non-perishable lunch and beverage (refrigeration not available). Please note that no lunches will be provided by TCU or staff.

    Ya'll Come Back! Rebate Program
    Simply register your child in more than one eligible camp workshop this summer and receive a rebate after the camp season ends. $10 rebates apply to each additional camp for each child; so, register your child for three eligible camps and receive $20 back! It's our way of saying thanks! Rebates will be processed in Fall 2018.
