Eight Women Artists

Course Description

In 1971, art historian Linda Nochlin wrote a groundbreaking article, “Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?” The short answer is there have been great women artists, but they’re mostly left out of art history books. Join Kimbell docent Deborah Reed for a dive into the careers of eight women artists from a seventeenth-century history painter, to painters of flowers, portraits and landscapes. We’ll meet two sculptresses: one who works in marble and one who assembles street trash. We’ll finish with a living artist whose medium is photography. Most of these women are represented in area museums.
